STORYTELLING 101

with Erin Rodgers

FREE

Stories help us learn about others, connect and inspire. In this workshop you will learn to craft a story you love to tell from your own personal experience. Whether you are an experienced performer or a first-time storyteller you will learn new fun and hands-on ways to share your stories with the world. Does the thought of telling your personal stories make you anxious. Facilitator Erin Rodgers specializes in creating a safe and fun atmosphere. Come with a story to work on or just come with yourself. You will leave with a story to dazzle audiences with, whether on stage or around the kitchen table. This workshop culminates in a fun and friendly show where we can share our stories with each other

LOVE LETTERS TO BABY BI's

A Short Filmmaking Workshop

with Jaene Castrillon

FREE

Using cellphones and available media we will collaborate on a group exploration on a set theme. Variations of this topic could include letters to our young selves, or to our favourite celebrity bi's, or to other bi's, or a goodbye to our dead selves, a celebration of current selves or what it means to you to be Bi, what does it feel like to take up that space as Bi?

Intensive will introduce participants to some basic principles for crafting images, recording good audio and creative forms of story-telling. Participants are asked to bring three photos or personal items, a combination of both to the filmmaking session. If possible clear their phone of images and space as much as possible so they can record video, audio and photos. There will be an opportunity to shoot some images and record audio tracks. Program facilitators will then edit the larger piece and distribute to participants after the festival. From there we can decide as a group if we want to try and submit our piece to festivals and/or use in future Bi Arts Festival events and promotion. https://www.facebook.com/events/367318247552976/

YOUR NAME EN-LIGHTS

with Kat Pruss

PWYC (suggested $10)

Labels, when self-applied, can be empowering and community providing. Labels can also be used to divide, exclude and stereotype and can often over-simplify a person's identity. At times, we may find ourselves offering up a label just so whom we're talking to has a point of reference. When you say you’re Bi, Pan, Fluid, Queer, Hetero-flexible, etc. what do YOU mean by this? What collection of experiences, personal heroes, influences, cultural moments, etc. come together under your umbrella of your preferred term? Would another unique and imagined label fit you better? How would you spell it? draw it? sew it? shape it?
